Our Philosophy
HEALTH CARE
Heritage Schools, Inc. assists in providing basic medical and dental care for your child while at Heritage. Heritage is in compliance with the new confidentiality laws outlined in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

UPON ADMISSION, all clients will receive an assessment by a member of our medical staff.

BASIC CARE is performed by Heritage's medical staff and includes treatment of colds, flu, acne, minor sprains, abrasions or cuts not requiring sutures, vomiting, diarrhea, menstrual discomfort, minor aches and pains, fevers, and infections. Basic care also includes antibiotics, cold medication, minor asthma treatment, or any condition not considered serious or medical emergency.

BASIC DENTAL CARE, such as fillings, root canals, crowns, etc., are performed with parental permission by a local provider. Insurance and financial arrangements for co-pay or payment of insurance deductibles are the responsibility of the client's parent or guardian. Heritage will assist with appointments and transportation to the local provider.

BASIC VISION assessments are performed by the nursing staff upon admission, and as needed. If it is determined that the client is having vision difficulties, he or she will be seen by a local optometrist after approval has been received from parent or guardian. The cost of the optometrist screening and any corrective vision devices (glasses or contact lenses) is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.

SPECIALIZED MEDICAL CARE - If it is determined by the Heritage medical staff that a client needs a specialist, a list of specialists in the area will be provided to the client's parent or guardian. It is the parent/guardian's responsibility to choose which specialist they prefer. All insurance and financial arrangements must be made directly with the specialist's office by the parent/guardian. Heritage will assist with specialist appointments and local transportation.

INVASIVE TREATMENT OR SURGERY. Any kind of invasive procedure or surgery (i.e., wisdom tooth extraction, colonoscopy, biopsies, tonsillectomy, etc.) will need to take place while the client is on a home visit, or while the parent/guardian is available to care for the client during the recovery period. Any surgery requiring more than 3 days' recovery time will need to be completed after the client has been discharged from Heritage. All insurance information, financial arrangements, and consent for treatment will be completed by the parent/guardian directly with the provider. Heritage may assist with this process as needed.

EMERGENCY CARE. Any client in need of emergency treatment due to an accident or illness will be taken to a local hospital emergency room. The parent/guardian will be notified as soon as possible, and advised as to where the child has been taken and how to contact the emergency department. Insurance information will be given by Heritage to the emergency department, but all other financial agreements are between the parent/guardian and the treating facility.

Frequently asked questions, clothing and property guidelines, and required vaccination information are provided in our downloadable Admissions Packet.

If you have questions or need further information concerning health care for Heritage students, please contact the Heritage Nursing Department at (801) 226-4659.
