MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO
"Miracles happen there."
It's often said that the first rule of great storytelling is:
"Write what you know."
Over the years since I co-founded Heritage
Schools, Inc. in 1984, I've come to realize the truth of that
statement. For the story of the Heritage School starts with my own - of
a disadvantaged youth whom "the system" and society branded a failure,
who needed only an opportunity to prove otherwise and who, through hard
work, perseverance and the compassion of discerning others,
rediscovered my birthright of possibility.
The Heritage School has "told this story"
thousands of times by now - saving and empowering young lives,
restoring families, and inspiring solutions. Our unique residential
campus has become a refuge of last resort when other educational,
psychiatric, welfare and other programs have been exhausted, with a
success rate far above the national average. Why?
- Because of the visionary passion and commitment of over 350
Heritage staff, including multiple advanced degrees in psychiatry,
social work, education, business, childcare, and medicine.
- The courage of our young clients, who overcome a lifetime of challenges, anger and resistance.
- The innovative, relationship-based Heritage therapeutic model,
based not on academic abstracts but my own personal experience, and;
- The generosity of friends like you.
Today, the Heritage story is best summarized in a letter from one of our recent graduates: "Miracles happen there."
